Silk Bouquet

Here is a design I did for my husbands cousin. Her colors are Red, Black and White. Its really my first time doing an entire design in all silks, I really enjoyed it a lot tho. More of this wedding will be coming in about a month. Her wedding is June 12, and I will be doing centerpieces, bouts, crosages, and a wedding arch as well. Stay tuned!

I decided to do the flowers for my own wedding with the help of some of my close friends. They couldn't have turned out any better.

Challenge Bouquet

For the Wedding and Events show our C group had to do a challenge bouquet. This year we were to get something from DI (Deseret Industries) to become a structure for the bouquet. I was so excited to do this. My special find at DI was a metal letter holder. I put a different flower in each spiral, which did turn out to be quite a challenge. ;)

This year I had the opportunity to be in interpretive design. We decided to interpret art work of other fellow BYU-I students. Mine was this picture of the barn. I really enjoyed do this and working with different textures and materials.

We had a challenge to design for a company (of our choosing) and we had to make it go along with their products. I decided to do Craftsman tools. For this presentation I made a centerpiece, Corsage, and Boutonniere.

Competitive Design - Mystery Material

In my Competitive Floral design class, we were all given a mystery material that we had to use in a design. In the past the materials have been: a Milk Jug, Toilet Paper Roll, and a Crystal Light Container. This years material was:A Water Bottle.

We had to use all of it, even the lid and the small plastic ring around the neck. Our particular bottle had a paper label. I took it up a notch and used that as well. However it was not required. Our design could be anything with flowers. An arrangement, a piece of clothing, umbrella, anything. As long as it also incorporated fresh flowers.

I chose to do a 3-panel design piece. I have never done one and wanted to put a little bit of Interpretive Design into it as well.

The first thing I think of when I see a water bottle is waste. I find them useless. Why buy water when we have the ability to get it out of our own kitchens. We have water purifying systems that yes, may cost money now, but in the future there is going to be less non-biodegradable plastic out of the soil. If you just can't get out of the habit of using a new plastic water bottle everyday then please, recycle. Its not that hard.

These are some in the process pictures. On the first the "water" coming out of the waterbottle was made first of pan glue dripped over the cardboard. The third picture is showing how I attached the water tubes to the panel.

Here is my finished piece. Sorry the pictures are not the greatest, the lighting wasn't the best. Yes it reads from left to right. Why? Not really sure, that is just the way i envisioned it when I was sketching it out.

1)The first panel has the waterbottle with the water spilling out of it, also some other garbage on the ground, pop can, and newspaper.

2)The middle panel still has the water bottle in it if you look closely, however it is smashed and starting to earth over. The whole panel is starting to green up a bit and things are blooming.

3) The last panel on the right is what this pieve becomes. Fully in bloom and green. It shows we can take something (such as a landfill) and make it beautiful.

This was a design I did for a teacher I work for. It was for his wife for Valentines. It is made of Tropicals and garden flowers. I loved doing it!! I hope you all love it too!
